Five More COVID-19 Cases Reported In Brunei, 16 Close Contacts Under Quarantine

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Mar 11 (NNN-BBNEWS) – Brunei reported five more cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday (yesterday), one day after the country confirmed its first case on Monday, the country’s Ministry of Health said.

The health ministry announced that five close contacts of the first COVID-19 victim also tested positive for the virus and have now been isolated for treatment, at the National Quarantine Centre, in Tutong District.

The five new cases had been in close contact with the first patient, a 53-year-old local man, who contracted the virus during a religious mass gathering in Kuala Lumpur, from Feb 28 to Mar 3. After returning to the country on Mar 3, the patient developed fever on Mar 7, and received treatment at the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital, the country’s biggest hospital, the next day.

At the moment another 16 close contacts of the first case are still under quarantine.

Ninety other Bruneians participated in the Kuala Lumpur gathering, but returned on different flights. The health ministry is urging them to come forward to get tested at the Flu Centre, RIPAS Hospital.

In light of the recent developments of the COVID-19, Brunei’s Ministry of Education announced yesterday afternoon that, the first school term break, scheduled for Mar 16, will be moved earlier to Mar 11 (today).

The health ministry added that, at this point all six patients are in good and stable condition.– NNN-BBNEWS
