Aussie Women Claim T20 Cricket World Cup With Decisive Victory Over India

SYDNEY, Mar 9 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Australia won the women’s Twenty20 (T20) cricket World Cup, with a comfortable victory over India on Sunday night, at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The Aussies claimed the Cup with an 85-run victory over India, in front of 86,174 spectators, a record crowd for women’s sport in Australia.

After Australia posted the best total for a T20 World Cup final ever, with 4-184, India was unable to match the undeniable polish of the home team and were bowled out for 99.

Despite beating Australia in the first matchup of the tournament, this time around the relatively young Indian side was stunned by the locals and struggled to find an edge in the game.

Aussie opener, Alyssa Healy, steamed to 75 runs off just 39 balls, which included five sixes, and completed an electric partnership with Beth Mooney, to give Australia an ultimately unassailable figure of 1-115.

Mooney herself claimed the record for the fastest 50 in a T20 World Cup final, reaching the half century from just 30 balls, and went on to claim the highest individual score in a T20 final with 78 runs.

After the match, Healy revealed her team’s strategy of rising to the level of competition presented by their opponents throughout a tough tournament.

“We knew that every single opposition was going to come really, really hard at us in every game, and it was about how we could absorb that pressure and throw it back in their face,” Healy said.– NNN-AGENCIES
