Brunei Sees Women Accounting For 42 Percent Of Labour Force

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Mar 9 (NNN-BBNEWS) – Females account for 42 percent of the labour force, with the employment rate for women aged between 25 and 64, increasing from 87 percent in 2014 to 89 percent in 2018, Brunei’s Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Haji Aminuddin Ihsan, said.

In his message to mark the International Women’s Day 2020, which fell on Sunday (yesterday), the minister said, in the civil service, as of Nov, 2019, females accounted for approximately 55 percent of the 50,768 employees. In the private sector, however, females only accounted for 38 percent of the labour force.

“This clearly demonstrates the tremendous potential for all to support greater women involvement, in the nation’s economic development,” the minister said.

The minister added in his message that, it has been long acknowledged that women in Brunei play a very significant role in the nation’s socioeconomic development and have contributed to the nation.– NNN-BBNEWS
