CARACAS, March 7 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The International Criminal Court (ICC) initiated a preliminary investigation of Venezuela’s lawsuit against the United States for crimes against humanity, executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez announced on Friday.
‘The International Criminal Court on Feb 19 opened a preliminary examination on this serious complaint that Venezuela presented in The Hague and then that will lead to an investigation,’ the official explained during a press conference from the Miraflores Palace.
She also advanced that in the upcoming days, the Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza will present to The Hague another 27 reports where the difficulties of the Venezuelan State for the acquisition of medicines, medical equipment and vaccines are exposed, which undermines the right to the health of vulnerable sectors of the population.
Rodriguez stressed that in this first stage the Bolivarian government presented evidence to demonstrate with numbers the impact in each sector of the US unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela.
On Feb 13, Venezuela filed a lawsuit against the US government against the unilateral coercive measures imposed since 2014, which prevent the purchase of medicines and food and cause the nation a financial damage of 116 billion dollars.
For the Venezuelan State, punitive actions constitute a crime against humanity provided for in article 7 of the Rome Statute. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
