Jordan Highlights UNESCO’s Role In Preserving Jerusalem’s Old City

AMMAN, Mar 5 (NNN-PETRA) – King Abdullah II of Jordan, highlighted the role played by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), in preserving World Heritage Sites in danger, especially the Old City of Jerusalem and its walls.

The king made the remarks at a meeting in Amman with UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay, during which they discussed advancing cooperation, especially in safeguarding cultural heritage.

The Jordanian king commended UNESCO’s role in safeguarding heritage sites in Jordan, especially the ancient Nabataean city of Petra, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For her part, Azoulay, who is currently in Jordan on her first official visit, highlighted the UN agency’s role around the world, and its cooperation with Jordan.

She also underlined the importance of bolstering this cooperation in future.– NNN-PETRA
