ESSCom detains seven men, seizes shot gun in Kalabakan

KALABAKAN, Sabah, March 5 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) nabbed seven illegal immigrants and confiscated a home made shot gun (bakakuk) in a raid at an oil palm plantation here Wednesday.

ESSCom commander, Datuk Hazani Ghazali in a statement today said the men aged 20 to 47 were apprehended at about 12.20 am.

He said initial investigation found all suspects were from Indonesia and had entered the country illegally through ungazetted routes.

According to Hazani, one of them who is believed to be working as a plantation labourer, possessed a bakakuk with six live bullets.

“The suspect admitted owning the gun and hiding the weapon in a bush covered with zinc and pieces of woods about 300 metres from the arrest location,” he said.

All the suspects and the seized items were taken to the Tawau police headquarters for further investigations.

Hazani said the ESSCom together with the police, Defence Forces and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency were committed to stepping up operations to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants into the country.
