KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 (NNN-Bernama) — “Thank you everyone.”
That was the caption of a video uploaded by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad soon after Muhyiddin Yassin was sworn in as the new Malaysian premier Sunday.
‘Don’t be shy, shy,” said his wife, Dr Siti Hasmah when she hugged Dr Mahathir, believed to be in his office at Yayasan Al-Bukhary, Sunday.
The 94-year-old statesman then replied, “Sudahlah” (It’s enough) as he continued hugging his wife after he was requested to do so by those present in his office.
His daughter, Marina Mahathir was seen capturing her parents’ sweet moments.
As at 2 pm, the one minute video had garnered over 610,000 views and more than 16,000 comments in Instagram.
The comments generally thanked Dr Mahathir for his leadership and his contribution as Malaysia fourth prime minister from 1981 to 2003, and again as Malaysia’s 7th premier in 2018, after he led the Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the 14th general elections.
Praying for his wellbeing, most of the users also commented that its time for Dr Mahathir to take rest and spend more time with his family.
The user @finasaffie commented: “Thank you Tun… It’s time for you to take a good rest… spending time with your beloved wife and family… I will always support you and you will always be my number one champion.” Tun refers to Dr Mahathir’s title, conferred by the King, to those who have highly contributed to the nation.
Meanwhile, @uyainaarsahd said: “I love you both so much.” Another follower, @aimiezainuddin said: “Terima kasih Tun. Jasa Tun akan dikenang sampai bila-bila. (Thank you Tun. Your service will be remembered forever). Take care Tun.”
The comments which came from people of all walks of life, including @josephine_phen praised Dr Mahathir for his contribution to the country.
“One of the greatest… Thank you Tun,” she wrote.
Earlier, Dr Mahathir, who is Langkawi Member of Parliament, addressed a press conference on the current political situation at Yayasan Al-Bukhary, here.
Dr Mahathir had been the interim prime minister after resigning as the 7th PM on Feb 24.
Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin took his oath of office as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia before the King, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, at Istana Negara (National Palace) Sunday.
Al-Sultan Abdullah appointed Muhyiddin as the new prime minister in accordance with Articles 40(2)(a) and 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.
