KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was spotted leaving Istana Negara (national palace) at around noon Thursday after having an audience with the Malaysian King Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
The interim prime minister arrived at the palace at 10.57 am.
Bernama is still trying to get confirmation on the purpose of Dr Mahathir’s audience with the King.
The vehicle carrying Dr Mahathir was later seen arriving at the Perdana Putra in Putrajaya at 12.25 pm.
Meanwhile in another development, political party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu)’s secretary-general Marzuki Yahya claimed that Dr Mahathir was back as Bersatu Chairman.
According to a whatsapp message from Marzuki to Bernama on Thursday, Dr Mahathir had agreed to return as chairman of Bersatu.
“Yes,” he said, when asked to confirm whether Dr Mahathir has returned as Bersatu chairman.
However, there has been no confirmation from Dr Mahathir on the matter.
On Monday, Dr Mahathir resigned as the prime minister and also Bersatu chairman.
Bersatu leaders had rejected his resignation as chairman and urged him to return to lead the party and the country.
