ISTANBUL, Feb 27 (NNN-ANADOLU) – The Turkish police seized more than 3,700 historical artefacts, in operations conducted across Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul.
Acting on a tip, anti-smuggling and organised crime teams, carried out 11 operations across Istanbul, between Jan 13 and Feb 25.
Among the seized artefacts are several ancient objects dating back to 2,400 years ago, it said.
Some of the pieces were from Byzantine, Roman, Greek, Hellenistic, Ottoman, and Seljuk eras, including 17th-century candleholders with Mamluk-era motifs, and a war spear with a Quranic verse on it.
A total of 12 suspects were captured during the operations, but were later released pending trial.– NNN-ANADOLU
