BEIRUT, Lebanon, Jan 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) – France has denied media reports that France had suspended its support to the Lebanese army, to protest Hezbollah’s continued military mobilisation, said the French Embassy in Lebanon, on Tuesday.
“France did not stop its military aid to Lebanon, and French President, Emmanuel Macron will not cancel his visit to Lebanon, which is due in Feb,” Agnes Von der Muhll, spokesperson of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs was quoted as saying in a statement, released by the embassy.
Media reports had earlier quoted French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian as saying that, Macron planned to cancel his visit to Lebanon, if Lebanon fails to form a new government.
Reports also suggested that France had suspended support to the Lebanese army.
“France is paying close attention to the situation in Lebanon and hopes to see the formation of a new government as soon as possible,” the statement read, stressing the need to “ensure Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability and security.”
The statement also called upon Lebanese officials, to implement the needed reforms, in a bid to obtain the 11 billion U.S. dollars, pledged for Lebanon by donor countries.– NNN-AGENCIES
