KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) — Several meetings involving political parties from both sides of the divide have been taking place since early today amid talk of possible realignment in the country’s political landscape.
All these meetings drew intense media attention but the discussions were held behind closed doors.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) held a special meeting at the party headquarters at Menara Yayasan Selangor in Petaling Jaya.
It was chaired by Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who declined to comment when reporters swarmed around the 94-year-old prime minister as he left the premises.
Joining Dr Mahathir at the meeting were Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin; deputy president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir; secretary-general Datuk Marzuki Yahya; and Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Meanwhile, PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and several PKR leaders aligned to him huddled in discussion at a hotel in Petaling Jaya.
UMNO, meanwhile, convened its special supreme council meeting at the headquarters of the opposition party at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here.
It is also learnt that several MPs from political parties in Sarawak were also in town for a meeting at a hotel in the federal capital.
Parti Warisan Sabah president cum Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was also seen entering a lift at the hotel, along with several other individuals.
It was not clear whether the Sabah leaders had joined those from Sarawak at their meeting.
Istana Negara was also a hive of activity as many vehicles were seen entering the palace this evening, some with police escort.
