KUALA PERLIS, Feb 17 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Four anglers have been rescued by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) after their boat experienced faulty engine at Sungai Baru, Perlis while returning from a fishing trip Saturday evening.
Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone director Commander Nurulazme Zakariah in a statement issued today, said a patrol boat was rushed to the scene after receiving a report on the incident the same evening and located the boat and four anglers southwest of Sungai Baru, Perlis.
In the incident, the boat which was ferrying four anglers, aged 33 to 43, suffered faulty gearbox and drifted off course until they were located by MMEA team, he said.
He said all four anglers were uninjured and taken to the Kuala Perlis Customs jetty.
“The MMEA will continue to patrol and monitor the country’s borders and waters from time to time to prevent smuggling, encroachment and criminal activities in the northern waters of Peninsular Malaysia,” he said.
He also advised the public to call MERS 999 or the Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone operations centre at 04-9851072 or 04-9851162 in case of an emergency at sea.
