Iran Says U.S. “Probably” Behind Cyber Attack On Telecom Network

TEHRAN, Feb 15 (NNN-IRNA) – The United States was probably behind the recent cyber attack on Iran’s telecommunication infrastructure, Gholam Reza Jalali, head of Iran’s Civil Defence Organisation, said.

“It’s very difficult and time-consuming to trace the source of a cyber attack. The Telecommunication Infrastructure Company (of Iran) is currently studying and looking for the source of the recent cyber attack against the country.”

“But, our analysis shows that the U.S. was probably the origin of the attack,” Jalali added.

On Feb 8, Iran announced that a “powerful” distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack, targeted Iran’s telecom services.

Sajjad Bonabi, deputy head of Iran’s Telecommunication Infrastructure Company, said that the DDoS attack was “unsuccessful,” since it was dealt with immediately, using the Iranian Information Technology Fortress.

“We managed to control their cyber attacks, and they failed to damage any section,” Jalali said, adding that however, Iran must accelerate its efforts to launch its National Information Network, in a bid to maintain services, in case of bigger attacks.– NNN-IRNA
