UNITED NATIONS, Feb 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United Nations Security Council has adopted a resolution on Libya confirming the conclusions of the recent Berlin conference on Libyan reconciliation and the need for a lasting ceasefire in the country.
The text, drafted by the United Kingdom, was approved with 14 votes out of 15, with Russia abstaining.
Although world leaders have agreed on the need to end all foreign interference in the country and to support an arms embargo, the text has taken weeks of discussion, reflecting the deep international divisions over Libya.
The resolution approves the final text of the Berlin conference and affirms the need for an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Libya without prior conditions.
