UNICEF “saddened” by injury of 3 children in Libya blast

TRIPOLI, Feb 13 (NNN-XINHUA) — The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) deplored the injury of three children in a blast near a school in Abu Issa village, west of the Libyan capital Tripoli.

“UNICEF is deeply saddened at reports that three students were injured due to an explosion near Al Jeel Al Saed school, 40 km from Tripoli, that took place on Monday morning,” UNICEF said in a statement.

It called on Libya’s rival parties to protect all children all the time and keep them away from harm’s way, in line with the International Humanitarian Law.

The east-based army has been leading a military campaign since April 2019 in and around the capital Tripoli, attempting to take over the city and topple the UN-backed government.

The fighting killed and injured thousands of people and forced more than 150,000 civilians to flee their homes. — NNN-XINHUA
