MELBOURNE, Feb 2 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Four children were killed, and three others injured, after being struck by a drunk driver, in the Australian city of Sydney.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), reported that, three of the children who were killed were siblings — two girls, aged 8 and 12, and a boy, aged 13 — while the fourth victim, another girl aged 11, was a relative.
The father of the three siblings expressed his grief to the media on Sunday (this) morning. “I don’t know what to say, I’m numb,” he said.
“All I just want to say is ‘please, drivers be careful.’ These kids were just walking innocently, enjoying each other’s company, and this morning I woke up — I have lost three kids.”
According to police, the group of seven children were travelling on a footpath in Sydney’s north-west at roughly 08:00 pm, when a 4-WD vehicle collided with them.
Four of the group died at the scene while an 11-year-old boy and two girls, aged 10 and 13, were treated by paramedics and transferred to Hospital. The boy remains in a serious but stable condition while the girls are stable.
Police said that the driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old man, returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.150, three times the legal limit in the State of New South Wales. He and his 24-year-old passenger were unharmed.
The driver faced court on Sunday (today), charged with 20 offences, including four counts of manslaughter, negligent driving, occasioning death and driving under the influence, occasioning death.– NNN-AGENCIES
