RAMALLAH, Palestine, Jan 23 (NNN-XINHUA) – Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, received Australian Governor-General, David Hurley, in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday.
During a bilateral meeting, “the president briefed his guest on the situation of the peace process,” said a statement published by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Abbas highlighted the importance of the international community’s intervention, to pressure the Israeli government, to allow Palestinians living in East Jerusalem, to participate in the Palestinian general elections, WAFA reported.
According to the statement, Abbas reiterated his call for an international multilateral mechanism, for any peace negotiations with Israel, in order to guarantee that any settlement reached is within the parameters of international legitimacy resolutions.
“The Australian Governor-General expressed his hope to reach peace and stability in the region,” said the statement.
“He said that he looks forward to enhancing cooperation and friendship between the two sides on issues of joint interest,” it added.– NNN-XINHUA
