Darell set to meet ministers, CEOs of MNCs at WEF in Davos

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Darell Leiking is scheduled to meet and discuss bilateral trade and investment issues with his counterparts from Switzerland, Turkey and Palestine at The World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2020 in Davos.

He will also be meeting chief executive officers (CEOs) of multinational companies such as ABB Switzerland, Dassault Systemes, DP World, Novartis, Festo AG, Jumeirah Group, Micron, Standard Chartered and Yidu Cloud to discuss potential business activities in Malaysia.

Darell is representing Malaysia at the four-day WEF that starts today. This year’s central theme is “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”, the ministry said in a statement.

At various engagements scheduled in Davos, the minister will be sharing Malaysia’s experience regarding Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), ASEAN and initiatives under the Belt and Road as well as providing Malaysia’s perspective on the current global, regional and industry challenges

“Malaysia will also take the opportunity to emphasise the nation’s business-friendly environment and policies to attract investment,” it said.

WEF, an independent international organisation for public-private cooperation, was established five decades ago with a mission to improve the economic state of the world.

The annual meeting, generally held in January, gathers the world’s top business leaders, politicians, academics and leaders of society to discuss major global issues affecting the world’s economy and to brainstorm suggestions and plans to address these challenges.

More than 2,500 participants including approximately 300 heads of state/government and government representatives as well as 1,500 global corporate leaders are expected to attend the event.

Besides the Forum, Darell will also be representing Malaysia at the Informal Ministerial Gathering on the World Trade Organisation organised by Switzerland. Ministers are expected to share views and dialogue on the challenges facing the multilateral trading system.
