Venezuelan prosecutor general calls on Brazil to extradite deserters

CARACAS, Jan 4 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — Venezuelan Prosecutor General Tarek William Saab said that he had sent an official communiqué to his Brazilian counterpart, Augusto Aras, warning him about the measure adopted by the Brazilian Government regarding five Venezuelan military deserters.

He explained that the five deserters assassinated a Venezuelan soldier and attacked a military unit and as such cannot be considered refugees in that country, and requested their extradition.

The prosecutor general tweeted a copy of the official document dated Jan 2, in which he demands the return of all five former members of the National Bolivarian Armed Forces, who participated in the attack on two military commands on Dec 22.

Saab warned the Brazilian Prosecutor’s Office that the conspirators and assassins planned to broadcast a video after the armed attacks to justify a military intervention in Venezuela.

‘In this communiqué we formally request that authorities of the Federative Republic of Brazil initiate the necessary procedures to hand these citizens over to the Venezuelan authorities,’ Saad wrote on Twitter.

The deserters were captured in Brazil thanks to the coordination of the Venezuelan authorities, but later that country’s government granted them refugee status. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
