5.8-Magnitude Earthquake Hits NE Iran, No Casualties

TEHRAN, Jan 2 (NNN-IRNA) – A 5.8-magnitude earthquake hit Sangan town, in Iran’s northeastern Khorasan Razavi province, on Thursday morning, according to the Iranian Seismological Centre.

According to the report, the epicentre of the quake was at the depth of eight km, 34.030 north latitude, and 60.325 east longitude, 300 km to the south of Iran’s sacred Mash’had city.

Hossein Sanjarani, the governor of Sangan, said, teams have been dispatched to the quake-hit region to assess damage.

Sanjarani also said that, there has been no reports of casualties so far.

However, death of livestock, due to the earthquake, have been reported, he said.

The earthquake was felt in the Afghanistan border region and the nearby province of Khorasan Jonoubi, according to the report.– NNN-IRNA
