Syrian President Highlights Fighting Terrorism In Idlib As Gov’t Priority

DAMASCUS, Jan 1 (NNN-SANA) – Syrian President, Bashar al-Assad, said, the battle against terrorism in Idlib Province is a priority for the Syrian government.

Assad made the remarks during his meeting with visiting Ali Asghar Khaji, an official in the Iranian Foreign Ministry.

The Syrian president said, the battle in Idlib, the last major rebel stronghold in the country, aims to eliminate terrorism.

For his part, Khaji highlighted Iran’s constant readiness to support what is in the interest of the Syrian people.

Idlib emerged as the main destination of rebel groups which evacuated several positions across Syria, after surrendering to the Syrian army.

The province is now considered the last major bastion for rebels in Syria.

Certain parts of Idlib are included in a deescalation zone deal, brokered by Russia and Turkey which backs the rebels.

However, such deals exclude the ultra-radical rebels, who are affiliated with the al-Qaeda and designated as terrorists by the United Nations.– NNN-SANA
