Mongolians Spend Most Money On Food In Dec: Official

ULAN BATOR, Dec 31 (NNN-MONGOLIA WEB) – Mongolian households spend the most money on food products in Dec, head of the country’s National Statistics Office, Ayush Ariunzaya, said.

“For Mongolian households, Dec is the month where most money is spent on purchasing food products. It is directly related to celebrations of the New Year,” Ariunzaya said.

According to the latest statistics, one Mongolian household spends an average of 297,590 Mongolian tugriks (about 109 U.S. dollars) on food per month, she said.

“However, one Mongolian household spends an average of 340,456 tugriks (125 dollars) on food in Dec,” said Ariunzaya. “The rise is directly related to New Year.”

Sales of some food products such as cakes, champagne and tangerines surged dramatically in Dec, the official added.

As the New Year is one of the most important holidays for nomadic Mongolians, they believe that plenty of food and drinks symbolise a prosperous life in the coming year.– NNN-MONGOLIA WEB
