Morales and MAS leadership meet for elections in Bolivia

BUENOS AIRES, Dec 30 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — Deposed president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, meets in the Argentian capital with leaders of the Movement for Socialism (MAS) party to define details for the next electoral campaign in the Andean nation.

Morales, in Argentina as a political refugee, exchange with MAS leaders in the nine departments of Bolivia, who in addition to addressing aspects related to elections will discuss holding a congress of that political formation to name its candidates.

According to local media, the appointment could be held next January somewhere near the border between Argentina and Bolivia.

‘Today (Sunday) in Buenos Aires begins the MAS-IPSP meeting with the participation of the leaders of the nine departments. Also for two days we met with the Unity Pact and at their request, we will carry out meetings with departmental leaders in the coming weeks’,Morales wrote on Twitter.

Once defined when and where the party congress will be, the MAS must request from Argentine authorities the necessary permits for its realization.

The indigenous ex-president was appointed campaign manager and announced that his party will present a ‘unitary candidacy’.

For the campaign, the candidate elected in the MAS Congress will defend the same government program that Morales presented in the last elections, known as the 2025 Agenda regarding the bicentennial of the Independence of Bolivia, which will be marked in 2025.

The general elections in the Andean country must be held no later than next February in accordance with the law approved by the parliament of that country on Nov 23.

Morales arrived in Buenos Aires from Mexico, where the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador granted him political asylum for threats against his life as a result of the coup d’etat that forced him to resign from the presidency of Bolivia. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
