ALMATY, Dec 27 (NNN-BERNAMA-SPUTNIK) –The number of people who died as a result of the Bek Air airline crash on Friday near the Kazakh city of Almaty has risen to 14, with 35 more people having been injured in the incident, Sputnik news agency reported the city’s administration as saying.
Earlier in the day, the Kazakh Interior Ministry said that nine people died and nine more were injured in the crash, which took place soon after the take-off.
“14 people died at the site (of the crash),” the city administration said in a statement.
The authorities said 35 people have been transported to various medical facilities. The list of injured people includes eight children and 22 people in critical condition.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development, the jet lost altitude after the take-off, broke a concrete guardrail and crashed into a two-storey building at 7.22 am local time (01:22 GMT).
The Kazakh government has created a special commission to investigate the incident.
“The commission is heading for the crash site. All the details and causes (of the crash) will be found. Until the circumstances of the incident are clarified, all flights of planes of this type will be suspended,” the ministry added.
The Bek Air airline uses Fokker-100 planes for the Almaty-Nur-Sultan route.
According to the airport of Almaty, 95 passengers and five crew members were on board the plane from Almaty for the capital of Nur-Sultan.
