TEHRAN, Dec 27 (NNN-IRNA) – Over 17,000 people were affected by air pollution across Iran, over the past week, Mojtaba Khaledi, spokesman for Iran Emergency Organisation, said, Thursday.
“During the past seven days, 17,303 people were referred to emergency centres of hospitals, in different cities of the country, due to air pollution,” Khaledi said.
The patients suffered respiratory and cardiovascular problems, he was quoted as saying.
In the capital Tehran, hospitals report increase of hospitalisations, as a result of severe air pollution.
Schools and kindergartens were closed for one week and people were advised to stay inside their homes, if they have no necessary things to do outdoors.
The authorities imposed restrictions on the movements of cars inside and outside of Tehran.
Over the past days, many other industrial cities across the country were also affected by poor air condition, and officials were forced to shut down educational centres.– NNN-IRNA
