TEHRAN, Dec 26 (NNN-IRNA) – A MiG-29 fighter jet, belonging to the Iranian army, crashed in the mountainous area of Iran’s northwestern Ardabil province, on Wednesday morning, Iran’s army said.
No information about the fate of the pilot is available so far, the announcement said.
The snowy whether condition and the rough mountainous area have slowed down the search for the pilot, it said.
Rescue operators with helicopters are hunting the area for wreckage of the plane, Majid Mohammad Gharibani, an official in Ardabil, was quoted as saying.
The Red Crescent Society of Ardabil province said, the plane crashed at the Baba Maqsood peak of Sabalan Mountain.
The fighter jet went down during a functional check flight, following an overhaul, it said.– NNN-IRNA
