Jordan Says Experimental Gas Supply By U.S. Noble Energy To Start In 2020

AMMAN, Dec 23 (NNN-PETRA) – Jordan’s National Electric Power Company (NEPCO), said that, the experimental supply of natural gas by U.S.-based Noble Energy Inc. will start in early 2020.

The gas supply is in line with an agreement signed between the two companies in 2016.

The experimental pumping, which will last three months, is aimed at testing the infrastructure, prior to the actual commercial supply, NEPCO said.

In Mar, Jordan’s parliament called for terminating the agreement to buy natural gas from Israel, as Noble Energy is the main control holder of Israel’s Leviathan gas field.

The deal will meet 40 percent of Jordan’s gas needs and save about 600 million U.S. dollars every year, according to NEPCO.

Under the agreement, Noble Energy will provide gas worth 15 billion dollars to Jordan, for a period of 15 years, or 300 million cubic feet on a daily basis.

Figures show Jordan imports about 97 percent of its energy needs.– NNN-PETRA
