Kazakhstan, Turkey To Expand Military Cooperation

NUR-SULTAN, Dec 22 (NNN-CAN) – Kazakh President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signed a bill into law, that boosts military cooperation with Turkey, the press service of the head of state said, in a statement.

According to the bill, the two countries would promote cooperation in military training and education, joint exercises, cartography, hydrography, transit of military equipment and medical care, based on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, said the statement.

The two sides would also cooperate in peacekeeping operations, military industries, as well as, military scientific and technical research.

Mukhtar Kul-Muhammed, chairman of Kazakhstan’s Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Defence and Security, said earlier that, about 200 Kazakh military officers, received free training at NATO schools in Turkey, so far.

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Defence, 16 Turkish officers are currently studying in Kazakhsan’s National University of Defence.– NNN-CAN
