Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei dies

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei, Ismail Salam died at his residence in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, this morning.

Ismail was 51.

Wisma Putra in a statement said the Malaysian High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan and the Foreign Ministry with the cooperation of the Malaysian Royal Air Force and the Brunei government are in the process to bring home his remains.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ismail at 8:33 am local time today,” the statement said.

Ismail began his career as an administrative and diplomatic service officer in 1992 before being appointed as the Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei last February. 

He had also served as the Malaysian High Commissioner to Kenya from May 2012 to June 2017.
