DOHA, Dec 17 (NNN-QNA) – Qatari foreign minister said, it was still early to talk about “real progress” with Saudi Arabia, over the blockade imposed against Qatar, but the channels of communication between Doha and Riyadh are open.
“It will take time to rebuild trust between Qatar and its neighbours, after two-and-a-half years of air, sea and land blockade imposed on Doha,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said.
On Jun 5, 2017, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, severed all diplomatic ties with Qatar and imposed a full blockade on the gas-rich Gulf nation, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism and undermining regional security, as well as, forging close bond with Iran.
The terrorism accusation has been proved to have “no basis at all” by the international community, Sheikh Mohammed said.
“Qatar will not make any concessions that will affect our sovereignty and interfere with our domestic or foreign policy,” he said.
From Qatar’s perspective, “we will want to understand the grievances and we want to study and assess them, and look for the solutions that can safeguard us in the future, from any other potential crisis,” the Qatari top diplomat noted.– NNN-QNA
