Killings of former guerrillas in Colombia is a genocide: FARC Senator

BOGOTA, Dec 16 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The assassination of former guerrilla fighters since the signing in 2016 of the Peace Agreement between the Government and the FARC-EP amounts to a genocide, expressed Pablo Catatumbo, senator of the Colombian FARC party.

‘#URGENT, 180 signatory of the peace agreement assassinated. The government must take effective action and implement the Agreement. The assassination of Manuel Antonio Gonzalez (former guerrilla fighter) confirms that this is a real genocide,’ he tweeted.

Gonzalez was assassinated near the Territorial Training and Reintegration Camp of the town of Santa Lucia, in the municipality of Ituango (north), according to the information issued.

“Manuel was a hard-working young man, committed to peace and, recently, a happy father of a family. The bullets took his life, and took some of our hope away. Ivan Duque: How many more deaths must there be for peace to be taken seriously?” expressed Omar Restrepo, representative to the House for the FARC party.

In a context marked by persistent violent crims, the UN Verification Mission in Colombia recently called on the people to persevere so that peace in this country be sustainable.

Different voices agree on the fact that hundreds of social leaders, indigenous people and former guerrilla fighters have been assassinated since the signing of the Agreement, while there are more calls to its comprehesive implementation in order to achieve a peace with social justice, stable and lasting. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
