BANTEN, Indonesia, Dec 14 (NNN-XINHUA) – Unit 1 of Indonesia’s coal-fired power plant PLTU Java 7, developed by a consortium of Chinese and Indonesian companies, officially kicked off commercial operation on Friday.
Unit 1 of PLTU Java 7, is situated in Banten province’s sub-district of Bojonegara. Unit 2 is currently under construction and is expected to commence commercial operations soon.
The PLTU Java 7 power plant, is currently operated by PT Shenhua Guohua Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali, which is a joint venture between China Shenhua Energy Co. Ltd. and PT Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali – a subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned electricity firm, Perusahaan Listrik Negara.
“I feel proud of the project because I see PLTU Java 7 as a mega-project with national strategic value. It will reduce the electricity supply cost, especially for the Java-Bali electricity,” Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali’s President, Director Iwan Agung Firstantara, said.
China Shenhua Energy, currently has 70 percent stake in the project, while Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali has 30.
According to Perusahaan Listrik Negara, the cost of the project is about 1.8 billion U.S. dollars.
Indonesian President, Joko Widodo’s administration has been working to reach the target of an additional 35,000 MW electricity supply, by the end of 2019.
Chief engineer of Guohua Electric Power Company, China Energy, Chen Yinbiao, said, Chinese engineers in the power plant will share their knowledge and experiences with their Indonesian counterparts, to accelerate the adoption of the advanced technology applied in the power plant.– NNN-XINHUA
