Palestinian President Hails UN’s Decision To Extend Mandate For Palestinian Refugees

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Dec 14 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, hailed the United Nations General Assembly’s resolution, to extend the mandate of the UN Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees.

The UN Agency to relief Palestinian refugees is acting in five different areas in the Middle East, which include the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria.

Abbas said, “This decision is a clear international community’s message that international legitimacy resolutions can’t be compromised or blackmailed.”

He also said, “gaining a global overwhelming majority is proof that the whole world is standing by our people, to their historic rights and to their just cause.”

The UN General Assembly members voted earlier, in favour of extending the mandate of UNRWA for an additional three years, where 169 member states voted in favour, where only Israel and the U.S. voted against.

UNRWA was found in 1949, in accordance with the UN General Assembly’s resolution, where its mission was to aid Palestinians, in refugee camps in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territories.

The humanitarian agency provides educational, health and sanitation services, to around five million refugees in such areas.– NNN-WAFA
