Sudanese government reiterates commitment to national peace as talks underway

KHARTOUM, Dec 12 (NNN-Xinhua) — Deputy Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council Mohamed Hamdan Daqlu has reiterated Sudanese government’s commitment to achieving peace in the country, the council said.

A new round of peace talks began in South Sudan’s capital Juba on Tuesday between the Sudanese government and armed groups.

Daqlu promised that the government “will not let down the sons of the Sudanese people and leaders of the armed struggle, who are aspiring for peace,” the council said in a statement.

“The government is determined to achieve peace sooner or later,” Daqlu added.

South Sudan has been mediating between the Sudanese government and the armed groups from Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile regions to reach a peace deal.

On Oct 14, South Sudan hosted in Juba last round of peace talks attended by the Sudanese government and armed factions. — NNN-XINHUA
