BEIRUT, Dec 3 (NNN-NNA) – Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, called on the Lebanese people, to help fight against corruption, without covering any corrupt practices by any politicians.
“We are not only faced by corrupt politicians but also people who do not complain about wrongdoings of politicians or the government’s public institutions,” Aoun said, during his meeting with a delegation from the Beirut Bar Association headed by its newly appointed head, Melhem Khalaf.
While Aoun praised protests for putting pressure on officials to fight against corruption, he said, protesters have not shown any positive stance towards his calls for negotiations with the civil society, to assess the best ways of solving these issues.
Lebanon has been witnessing, for the past 50 days, nationwide protests against the ruling political class and their corrupt practices.
Protests have so far succeeded in toppling the government, while protesters vowed not to leave the streets, until they see a formation of a new cabinet capable of dealing with their demands, including the trial of corrupted politicians.– NNN-NNA
