ALGIERS, Nov 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Algerian students have taken to the streets of the capital, Algiers, ahead of next month’s presidential election, in a continuation of protests that began last February.
About 1,000 demonstrators marched from Martyrs’ Square chanting for a free and democratic Algeria.
They are angry that all five candidates supported or served in the administration of former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who resigned in April after 20 years in power.
Meanwhile, a court in Algiers has jailed 19 people for their part in anti-government demonstrations earlier this year.
Many were imprisoned for carrying Berber flags. — NNN-AGENCIES
