PATTANI, Nov 22 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Two militants believed to be members of the National Revolutionary Front (BRN) armed group have been killed in a three-hour shootout with the security forces in Pattani, southern Thailand.
Fourth Division Military spokesman Col Pramote Prom-in said the two men, aged 28 and 40, were killed at the scene at about 7.30 pm (8.30 pm Malaysian time) Thursday.
He said based on intelligence information gathered, the security personnel surrounded a house located in Kampung Kuala Pinae in Nong Chik district, believed to be a hiding place for armed group members.
“The security forces personnel who arrived at the house had asked the occupants to surrender but they refused and started firing which resulted in a three-hour shootout,” he said in a statement today.
He said the security forces also sought the help of an imam in the village to advise the two men to surrender but failed.
Later, two bodies and firearms were found in the house, he said.
It was believed that the 40-year-old suspect was involved in the attack on security posts in Yala which left 15 dead on Nov 5.
