Next Round Of Multi-National Talks On Syria Expected In Early Dec: Kazakh Fm

NUR-SULTAN, Kazakhstan, Nov 19 (NNN-TASS) – The next round of multi-national talks on Syria, can be held here in early Dec, Kazakh Foreign Minister, Mukhtar Tleuberdi, told reporters.

The Kazakh side was expecting official requests from Russia, Turkey and Iran, Tleuberdi said.

He said, “Developments in Syria make it clear that the Astana process is still relevant,” adding, countries participating to resolve the situation in Syria “should come to the negotiating table and discuss the issue.”

The 13th round of talks on Syria was held in the Kazakh capital of Nur-Sultan on Aug 1-2, and joined by Iran, Turkey and Russia, as well as, representatives of the Syrian government and the opposition. Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and the United Nations also sent representatives as observers.

The process towards a peaceful settlement in Syria, also known as the Astana process, was launched in Jan, 2017, by Russia, Iran and Turkey in Astana, later renamed Nur-Sultan, to bring warring parties in the Syrian conflict to the negotiating table, to find a political solution to the crisis.– NNN-TASS
