Palestinian President Hails UN’s Decision To Renew UNRWA Mandate

RAMALLAH, Nov 16 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, hailed the United Nations General Assembly’s decision, to renew the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA).

Abbas, in an official statement, said that, “170 states voted in favour of the resolution, and only Israel and the United States voted against it.”

Abbas said that, “the UN resolution is proof that the whole world stands with our people and their inalienable historical rights and cause.”

It expresses the world’s position towards supporting Palestinian refugees, and continuing to provide services for them, until their just cause is finally resolved, in accordance with the UN resolutions.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Reyad al-Malki, earlier stated that, a majority in the UN General Assembly voted in favour of seven resolutions, including the resumption of aid to Palestinian refugees via UNRWA.

UNRWA was established in 1949, providing health, education and relief services to around five million Palestinian refugees, who live in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.– NNN-WAFA
