NEW DELHI, Nov 14 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Bollywood’s famous playback singer Lata Mangeshkar has been reported to be in a stable condition after she was taken to hospital due to breathing problems.
“She is critical but improving. She is still in the ICU (intensive care unit) and on ventilator. It will take some time for her to recover,” news agency PTI quoted a hospital source as saying on Wednesday.
The 90-year-old singer, known as the “melody queen” to her cinema fans, was suffering from a chest infection and admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on Monday, local media reported earlier.
The singer received India’s highest award the Bharat Ratna in 2001 and enjoys a cult following in the movie-mad nation.
She has sung thousands of songs in different languages, including Hindi, Marathi and Bengali, in her career spanning seven decades.
