Thai Army Has No Plans To Impose Curfew In Restive South

BANGKOK, Nov 10 (NNN-TNA) – The Thai Army has no plans to impose curfew in the restive south, despite Tuesday’s deadly attacks killing 15 civilians, said Col Pramote Prom-in, spokesman of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC).

Col Pramote said, several Thai media outlets have interpreted the Royal Gazette wrongly, assuming that the latter has imposed a curfew in the deep south, to facilitate the police hunt for the assailants.

“There is no immediate plans of the Thai Army to impose curfew as yet,” said Col Pramote, “the Royal Gazette only said in writing that ‘it is up to the discretion of ISOC whether to impose curfew or not; and if curfew is imposed, it will be effective from Dec 1 this year until Nov 30 next year.

“However, the Thai Army has deemed it unnecessary as yet, to impose curfew,” said Col Pramote. “Imposing curfew may only lead to panic and affect the everyday business in the South. Please rest assured that the Thai Army is confident that perpetrators will be arrested very quickly.”

Attacks, blamed on suspected insurgents in the restive south of Yala Province, left 15 community guards dead, in one of the deadliest days in recent history, in the restive areas, where about 7,000 people have died, since the insurgency began in 2004.– NNN-TNA
