YALA, Nov 7 (NNN-BERNAMA) — Thailand police have identified a suspect involved in the violent attacks on two security posts in Yala, southern Thailand, which killed 15 people last Tuesday.
Fourth Division Army chief, Lt. Gen Pornsak Poonsawat said preliminary investigations revealed that the weapon used by the suspects was similar to the one used in the robbery of a gold shop in Na Thawi, Songkhla on Aug 24.
Furthermore, he added the same weapon was used to blowing up an automatic teller machines (ATM) in Pattani on Aug 4.
“Police are intensifying search to track other members of the armed group. We believe that the group members were injured in the attack. They may be hiding in the nearby forest,” he said in a press conference here today.
In the incident at 10.15 pm (local time), at least 15 people were killed and four volunteers were injured when about 20 suspected separatists launched an attack in Yala.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere at the Wat Lampaya was that of sadness when the bodies of nine people killed in the attack arrived at the temple for a seven-day religious ceremony before burial.
