KAMPALA, Nov 5 (NNN-IRIN) – Over 360 personnel from the six East African Community (EAC) member countries, began a two-week joint military training exercise, in the eastern Ugandan district of Jinja.
Deo Akiiki, Uganda’s deputy military spokesperson, said that, the EAC joint Command Post Exercise (CPX), aims to promote regional integration agenda, inter-operability of the region’s armed forces, and to improve their readiness in responding to complex security challenges in the region.
The 12th edition of CPX, dubbed Ushirikiano Imara 2019, attracted military, police, prisons, immigration personnel and key civilian stakeholders from Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya and South Sudan.
The CPX is conducted under the framework of the EAC protocol on cooperation in defence affairs, one of the interventions aimed at promoting regional integration.
Under the protocol, the partner states agreed to cooperate in all defence affairs and collaborate with international and regional organisations to promote peace, security and stability in the community.– NNN-IRIN
