Hezbollah Leader Refuses Gov’t Resignation, Early Parliament Election

BEIRUT, Oct 26 (NNN-NNA) – Hezbollah Leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, said that, the group will not accept resignation of the current government and early parliament election, local media reported.

“We are open to any solution without resorting to political vacuum, because it will be disastrous for the country,” Nasrallah was quoted as saying.

Nasrallah said, his group cannot accept early parliamentary election because it is a complicated issue.

“We are protecting the country against political vacuum, which will lead to deterioration. Our duty is to protect our country and people,” he said.

Nasrallah also called upon protesters to appoint a representative, to discuss their demands with the Lebanese president.

Nasrallah’s speech comes, on the ninth day of nationwide demonstrations, with protesters calling for a mass resignation of the president, all MP’s and ministers.

Demonstrators have, for the past nine days, blocked roads, which caused banks, schools and all public administrations to shut down.

Friday’s demonstrations also saw several clashes between protesters and representatives of political parties, including Hezbollah, prompting it to call on its supporters to withdraw from protests.

Lebanese Prime Minister, Saad Hariri, suggested reforms earlier this week, which were also supported by President, Michel Aoun, but the new measures did not satisfy the protesters, who are insisting to topple the government and change the political system.– NNN-NNA
