Egypt Suspends All Tourist Activities For 48 Hours Due To Stormy Weather

CAIRO, Oct 26 (NNN-MENA) – The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, decided to suspend all tourist trips across Egypt for two days, citing the unstable stormy weather conditions, hitting the North African country.

A ministry statement said, the decision was made for the safety of tourists, tourist bus drivers and tour guides.

All tourist marine and diving activities will be halted on Saturday (today) in the cities, overlooking the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, the Nile Delta, Suez Canal, as well as, North and Central Sinai.

The decision came, hours after the government raised the alert to the maximum level, ahead of stormy weather conditions.

Egypt has been experiencing heavy rain and stormy conditions since Tuesday, with 16 lives claimed nationwide so far, according to official Ahram Online news website.

The capital, Cairo, suffered traffic jams and water-logged streets after downpours on Tuesday, causing some flights to be delayed as passengers were unable to arrive on time. Schools were also closed on Thursday nationwide.

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned on Friday that, Alexandria, Egypt’s North Coast and the Nile Delta, are expected to see the beginning of a very rare storm coming from the Mediterranean.

In Alexandria, tram services were halted on Friday because of heavy rain, and schools there will be closed on Saturday (today) for the safety of students, Ahram Online reported.– NNN-MENA
