KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 (NNN-Bernama) — Austria appreciates its friendship with Malaysia and hopes the good diplomatic ties will continue, said Austrian ambassador to Malaysia Dr Michael Postl.
He said the enduring ties were also evident in Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s official visit to Vienna in January, where he met with President Dr Alexander Van der Bellen and then-Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, as well as leading industry captains.
“We hope Malaysia continues to be a strong and trusted partner in Southeast Asia,” Postl said in a speech delivered in Bahasa Malaysia in conjunction with Austria’s National Day celebration, here, on Tuesday night.
Reflecting on his experience since he began serving in Malaysia in 2017, Postl said he has formed friendships with people of various backgrounds and races.
“Tonight, we would like to celebrate bilateral relations between Malaysia and Austria,” he added.
Malaysia is Austria’s largest export market in Southeast Asia and the fifth largest in Asia. According to a previous Bernama report, Malaysia and Austria’s current trade volume is about € 860 million (RM4.02 billion) a year, with 70 Austrian companies currently operating in Malaysia.
