NEW DELHI, Oct 20 (NNN-PTI) – Several people were feared trapped, under the debris of an old building, after it suddenly collapsed, in India’s western state of Gujarat, on Saturday.
At least two labourers were rescued from under the rubble of the building, and sent to a nearby hospital. Efforts are being made to find more, if still trapped, a local official said.
He added that, officials from local police, disaster management, and fire brigade department, were present, to carry out and supervise the rescue work at the site.
The incident occurred at around 1500 hours (Indian Standard Time), in the state’s Chhani Jakatnaka area of Vadodara district, when work was in progress to demolish the old building.
The five-storey building was said to be shut for quite some time, and that it contained shops and commercial establishments.
