Two Belgian Jihadist Fighters Escape From Kurdish Prison In Syria

BRUSSELS, Oct 17 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Two Belgian jihadist fighters, who were taken prisoners in northeastern Syria, had escaped, Belgium’s Coordinating Body for Threat Analysis, confirmed.

The statement was released by the director of the Coordinating Body, Paul Van Tigchelt, before the Committee on External Relations, of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium, the lower house of the Federal Parliament.

It confirmed that one of the two men had been convicted of terrorism in Belgium.

According to the latest data provided by the director, 55 terrorist fighters and 69 children with ties to Belgium, currently reside in the Kurdish region.

They are recognised as Belgians or foreign nationals who stayed in Belgium before leaving for Syria.

The document sent to the committee goes further and lists 84 people related to Belgium, who are currently in refugee camps run by Kurdish forces in northern Syria.

So far, the Belgian government continues to advocate for the establishment of an international jurisdiction, but they have so far failed to garner support from the international community.– NNN-AGENCIES
