5.8-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Parts Of Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Oct 14 (NNN-APP) – A 5.8-magnitude earthquake rocked several cities in Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province and northern areas, on Monday morning, the country’s National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) said.

According to the centre, the epicentre of the quake was located in the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, with a depth of 157 km.

A local official told media that the earthquake was felt in parts of KP, including Peshawar, Malakand, Mardan, Charsadda, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Swat and other northern areas of the country.

No loss of life or property has been immediately reported, but the quake created panic among the people, who scrambled out of buildings and compounds.

Today’s earthquake is the second quake above 5.0 magnitude hitting Pakistan within a week. Earlier, on Wednesday, a 5.2-magnitude quake hit parts of the country.– NNN-APP
