Israeli Scientist Injured In Explosion At Israeli Technion’s Lab

JERUSALEM, Oct 14 (NNN-MA’AN) – A senior Israeli researcher was severely injured, in an explosion in a laboratory, at the Israel Institute of Technology (Technion) in the northern city of Haifa.

Firefighters rushed to the scene, scoured the building and performed monitoring activities, to avoid additional material leakage, local media reported.

“We found the injured person unconscious and gave him life-saving care, including treatment for burns, painkillers and respiration,” Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency medical service said.

The injured man, 81, a professor at the Technion’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering, is suffering burns all over his body and bruises in his upper body, it said.

He was rushed to Rambam Hospital in Haifa, in an induced coma and on a respirator.

The cause of the explosion remained unknown pending an investigation.

Israel’s National Fire and Rescue Authority, which started an investigation of the incident, said, the explosion also destroyed adjacent labs, on the fifth floor of the faculty building.– NNN-MA’AN
